The Top 5 Most Common Issues with Subaru’s

Subaru’s have always had a name for longevity when it comes to things like their engines and their ability to withstand repeated punishment on their suspension while you’re out there 4x4ing. But with mass production, even the best vehicles have common problems, so here’s a list of the top 5 issues to look out for if you’ve got an older Subaru vehicle.

1. Denso Fuel Pump Failure – The very construction of some of these fuel pumps have resulted in them absorbing fuel after cracking, which causes them to stop sending fuel to the engine altogether. If you’re having fuel delivery issues with you Subaru, this could be why.

2. Oil Leaks – This particular problem is mostly found on older Subaru Foresters mainly, but has occurred on the other Subaru models, just less frequently. The oil leak is due to a seal leak that occurs around just over 100,000kms. The lack of oil, if it goes unnoticed, can cause engine misfires and ultimately the engine to seize. If you notice any drips of oil under your car, get it checked for an oil leak right away.

3. Blown Head Gaskets – A common engine issue with many older vehicles, and also a known one the Subaru. If you happen to notice your fluids are going down faster than they should be, and that your vehicle has a burning smell to it, it could be that your head gasket has gone. Get it checked at the mechanic as soon as you notice these tell-tale signs.

4. Unintended Acceleration – This is one that is definitely concerning, as it occurs most often when drivers are trying to shift their vehicle into park. The reports from consumers who own Subaru vehicles with this issue state that when they attempt to shift their vehicle into park, they experience a sudden surge of acceleration, even though their foot is on the brake. Due to this, some vehicles have actually collided with objects and created front-end body damage.

5. Check Engine Light Due to Failed Catalytic Converter – The check engine light is a common problem amongst all makes and models of vehicles, but this specific issue is directly related to the failing of the catalytic converter on the Subaru Foresters. Many people have claimed that not only did they spend hundreds of dollars on replacing their catalytic converter, they had to have it replaced 2 or 3 times on many different years of the Forester.

The All-Wheel Drive King of the Road (and everywhere else)

There are a lot of car companies out there making all-wheel drive vehicles, this we know. However, there is only one company that puts all-wheel drive design in every single vehicle it makes; Subaru. Yes, every single one of its vehicles is not only AWD, they also all have a boxer engine, which makes for smoother engine vibration. A.K.A. better engine longevity. It’s in this that they have been producing some of the best and most reliable vehicles for over 45 years. Like Subaru, we have been in this industry for a long time (since 2005), and while it may not be as long as 45 years, the owner of More Cash For Scrap is a third-generation industry car guy, who not only knows how to get you more cash for your junk car, he actually cares about doing what’s best for his customers.
