The Discontinued Cars of 2023

discontinued cars of 2023

It’s that time of year again. Where we say goodbye to some vehicles that we will deeply miss, and others, not so much. If you’re looking at buying a new car in the near future, check out this list to see how long you have left to buy it.

Also, if you are currently the owner of one that is suffering from mechanical failure, electrical problems, or has any kind of collision, fire, or flood damage, we want to buy it. More Cash For Scrap offers MORE cash for scrap cars than any other junk car buyers in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

What Cars Are Being Discontinued in 2023 in Canada?

While we say hello to some new and exciting new vehicles and models coming out in 2024, we say goodbye to some old friends who have been in our lives for many, many years. But just like anything, change is inevitable.

Audi R8

Audi has confirmed that this will be the last year of their prestigious supercar the Audi R8. Despite the fact that this car has an incredible amount of power and style, sales have continued to drop. However, Audi has said that they may be re-releasing the R8 in a fully electric form sometime down the road. Unfortunately, for those who are R8 enthusiasts, no specific date or time frame has been reported.

You might think that because we are a scrap car removal company, we don’t see many high-end vehicles come through our services. However, you’d be wrong. We buy vehicles of any make or model, and in any condition, and we’ve seen our share of the Audi R8 with collision damage. Additionally, we’ve had some come through our doors with fire and flood damage too.

So, you never really know when a perfectly good vehicle can suddenly become a scrap car. Fortunately, we always pay MORE cash for scrap cars than any other Metro Vancouver scrap car buyer.

Dodge Challenger

For such an iconic car, the last thing you’d expect from Dodge is the discontinuation of the Dodge Challenger.

It’s been featured in many movies including the Fast and the Furious, Nightcrawler, and Death Proof. And while it has an enormous fan base of people who love the car, and hundreds of Challenger car clubs all across North America, Dodge has still decided that the Challenger will not be returning in 2024.

cash for cars

The Hellcat version of the Challenger was discontinued last year, and they are now halting production all together. The reason for this is because the sale of muscle cars has been steadily declining due to fuel costs, and the production of EV vehicles is on the rise. This is in part because of a mandate for manufacturers to produce more electric powered vehicles to reduce climate change.

Additionally, Dodge is investing millions of dollars into producing all electric vehicles, and thus needs to conserve funds to build new factories and production lines. Eliminating the least sold vehicles in their line-up is where they decided to start.

Audi TT

Another Audi is on the listof discontinued cars in 2023, and we are sad to see this one go. The Audi TT has been featured in many video games, and has been a fan favourite for many, many years. However, despite the following, Audi has decided to focus their efforts on producing more sustainable vehicles much like many of their competitors.

This will ultimately be a good thing for many of the Audi TT fans, because the car maker has stated that they intend to replace it with an EV version of the vehicle down the road.

We see so many different kinds of scrap cars in our line of business. We purchased an Audi TT just over 2 years that had been totaled after a tree fell on it in the wild windstorm that tore apart the Vancouver Seawall. Not all scrap cars are rusty, old clunkers!

The great news is, when you don’t have comprehensive insurance, and have a high-end vehicle that’s been written off by ICBC, you can get MORE cash for your car with More Cash For Scrap. We always pay MORE!

Kia Rio

There was a point in time where the brand Kia was one of the most commonly seen brands across the scrap car removal industry. They were known for poor durability, frequent mechanical failures, and a lengthy list of recalls across all of their models.

However, Kia has made great strides in improving their brand name over the years. Kia is now one of the vehicles with the best warranty available on the market today.

Unfortunately, the Kia Rio will be saying goodbye to the automotive market this year, as the company has decided to discontinue this compact car.

The Rio was the cheapest vehicle you could buy under the Kia brand name. And just as so many automakers have been doing, the company has dwindled out the last of its “under 20K” cars with the discontinuation of the Rio.

They started selling the Rio in 1999, and we’ve still bought many of them due to collision damage, major mechanical failures like blown transmission, dead engines caused by overheating, and even timing belts.

Vancouverites, however, are lucky to have a scrap car removal company that always pays MORE cash for scrap cars than anyone else… Us!

Chrysler 300

cash for cars BC

The Chrysler 300 was once an extremely popular car. Although it developed quite the fan base at the start of its lifecycle, sale have definitely decreased over the years.

This could be due in part to the fact that it doesn’t have very good fuel economy. It could also be due to the fact that Chrysler hasn’t changed the model since it joined the automotive world in 2011.

There are currently no plans from Chrysler to relaunch the Chrysler 300 in a fully EV version, but only time will tell. Ultimately, we believe one of the biggest reasons that Chrysler has decided to discontinue this particular model is because of its overall reliability rating.

The 300, while stylish, has been known to have a whole host of problems including:

  • Heating issues
  • Engine stalling
  • Rough and slipping transmission
  • Various other transmission issues like gear selector or linkage problems
  • Clutch issues
  • Engine overheating issues

These are just a few of the most commonly reported issues with the Chrysler 300. We’ve scrapped MORE than our fair share of them, and we think the discontinuation is a result of consumer reports, depleted sales, and fierce competition in the EV sector of car production.

Nissan Maxima

Like so many other vehicles that have stood the test of time, consumers will have to say goodbye to the once wildly popular Nissan Maxima.

Around for almost 40 years, and many redesigns and upgrades, the Maxima is being retired due to a major drop in sales over the past 5 years. With it being a larger family sedan, the fuel economy just isn’t practical for Vancouverites. Plus, with British Columbia pushing automakers to offer more fully electric vehicles in the province, it makes consumers more likely to go electric.

Couple the better diversity and availability of electric vehicles with multiple government incentives, and the decommissioning of many gasoline powered vehicles with less-than-optimal gas mileage is inevitable.

If you’ve been considering buying a Nissan Maxima recently, you better get your hands on one before they’re gone. They’ve already stopped production, and what’s left on the lots is all there will be for the 8th generation Maxima.

Dodge Charger

we buy discontinued cars for cash

Another Dodge favourite will be leaving the market this year, and for the very same reasons as its sister car, the Challenger.

Although the carmaker’s decision was based mostly on the sustainability of the muscle car production and sales, it was also due in part to the consumer reports about various electrical problems, among other issues. Electrical problems are by far some of the most expensive to fix on any vehicle, especially a Charger.

Most Common Dodge Charger Problems:

  • Electrical problems with the ignition
  • Power windows and door locks stop working
  • Check engine light staying on
  • Interior lights stop working
  • Transmission shudders and slips
  • Sticky gear shift
  • Engine overheating due to malfunctioning thermostat
  • Various sensor malfunctions

While the Charger is indeed stylish and powerful, it certainly comes with a price over and above your initial investment. This is probably why we’ve purchased many Dodge Chargers due to electrical issues that couldn’t be resolved.

If you’ve got a Dodge Charger with electrical problems, transmission issues, or anything else major that needs to be repaired before you can sell it privately, sell it to More Cash For Scrap instead. We always pay MORE!

Ford Edge

cash for vehicles

As is the trend with many of the vehicles on the list of discontinued cars of 2023, the Ford Edge has been discontinued due to less than desirable fuel economy, and to make way for a newer and better fully electric version down the road.

Ford vehicles have always had their share of problems, but the Edge was known to be one of the more reliable models put out by Ford.

However, in a world that is constantly moving forward in the EV market, mid-sized SUVs don’t have a place for consumers unless they are hybrid or fully electric.

Kia Stinger

As a Kia owner myself, I’m sad to see this one go this year. However, the Kia Stinger has had the lowest sales of all the Kia line of vehicles this year, as well as previous years. With extremely sluggish sales and little demand for the Stinger, Kia had no choice but to discontinue this model.

Although the Stinger is discontinued, its sister car, the Optima, is still on the market and driving excellent sales. The Stinger is a much sportier version, but Kia plans to offer a variety of new trims for the Optima in the coming years.

The hope for many of the Stinger’s fans and enthusiasts is that an EV version will be offered in the coming years. However, Kia has no plans of this to mention currently.

Mazda CX-9

discontinued cars of last year

While the CX-9 is being retired this year, it is only to make room for a bigger and more cargo friendly Mazda CX-90. The new Mazda SUV will have 3 rows of seating, a futuristic infotainment system, and fierce styling to compete with luxury SUV names like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Infiniti.

When it comes to the Mazda brand of vehicles, they are on the whole, a very solid brand of car. However, every carmaker produces vehicles that have issues, and though they are few, the Mazda CX-9 has some.

Most Common Problems on the Mazda CX-9 Are:

  • Brake problems
  • Engine problems including overheating
  • Transmission issues (slipping, grinding, bad transfer case)
  • Electrical accessory issues including power windows, mirrors, and interior lighting

The models most affected by these issues are the years from 2008-2011. If you’ve got a CX-9 that has any of the issues mentioned above, and is a 2008-2011, give our scrap car buyer a call today. We are happy to buy junk vehicles with any kind of mechanical or electrical failure.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class, CLS-Class, & E-Class

cars for cash

Although many of us aspire to own a Mercedes at some point or another in our life, the pool of available Benz vehicles will be getting smaller this year. With the discontinuation of the C-class, the CLS-class, and the E-class, comes the birth of just one vehicle intended to replace them all; the CLE.

With a powerful EV movement taking place currently in the automotive world, Mercedes-Benz felt that there simply wasn’t enough of a demand for multiple vehicles that all serve a similar purpose, with similar features and functions. That’s why they discontinued the 3 models this year and rumours have it that they will be launching the CLE in 2024 as their substitute.
